For example suppose you have a 4 12 pitch roof and the width of the house is 28 feet.
Multiply the result by the factor and this is the length of the roof from base to ridge.
Thus a moderate 6 in 12 roof pitch means that the roof rises 6 inches vertically for every 12 horizontal inches it runs.
That is if your tape reads 7 then add 1 that will give you 8 12.
